Free Fire Review

With one eye on seventies crime cinema and a set-up that echoes Reservoir Dogs, Ben Wheatley’s raucous shoot ‘em up Free Fire can’t help but feel like one of those Tarantino knock-offs that poured into cinemas in the ‘90s. But Wheatley, as always, puts his unique spin on it, avoiding any convoluted plotting and whittling down the backstory until all that’s left is a lean, violent and darkly comic excuse for one big, messy gun fight.

Red Band Trailer for Spike Lee's Oldboy

After releasing the poster earlier in the week, the first trailer for Spike Lee's Oldboy has hit the internet. The film is a remake of Park Chan-wook's 2003 Korean film of the same name which has become a cult classic, putting this remake under extreme scrutiny right away. Anyone familiar with the original will be intrigued to see what Lee, a very different filmmaker to Park, can do with the material and those who have never seen it are in for one of cinema's best mysteries.
