The Way, Way Back Trailer

Last month, I ran down 20 movies that are likely to feature in the awards race next season and mentioned The Way, Way Back, the directorial debut of the Oscar winning The Descendents writers Jim Rash and Nat Faxon. Well, the first trailer for the film dropped today and while the film might prove too flimsy for any major awards, it certainly looks like the kind of warm-hearted and poignant comedy drama that could strike the same chord as Little Miss Sunshine did back in 2006.

The film is a coming of age story about awkward teen Duncan (Liam James) who is struggling to get to grips with his mother's (Toni Collette) asshole boyfriend (Steve Carrell). He finds a job at a local water park where he's taken under the wing of Owen (Sam Rockwell) and love is also on the cards as he meets fellow teen Susanna (Annasophia Robb). It's a great cast - Sam Rockwell and Steve Carrell are always great - and the trailer is warm and funny enough to suggest this one could be a winner. Check out the trailer below and keep an eye out for The Way, Way Back in theatres this summer.
